How to get fuller eyebrows

Why are my eyebrows so thin?

  • Overplucking - One of the most common reasons that people report having thin brows is because they’ve over-plucked them. While topical treatments can often help in these cases, if hairs have been repeatedly plucked over many years, the follicles end up scarred and are no longer capable of functioning.
  • Alopecia areata - This is an autoimmune condition that can cause hair loss from the scalp, beard, eyebrows and eyelashes and other parts of the body. It usually needs to be treated with steroids or other immunosuppressant medications.
  • Chemotherapy - Some forms of chemotherapy can cause hair all over the body to be lost as the drug targets fast-growing cells, and this includes hair follicle cells. You can learn more about chemotherapy here.
  • Thyroid imbalances - Hormonal imbalances related to the thyroid can affect the normal hair growth cycles and this can result in loss or thinning of hair across the body, including the eyebrows.
  • Menopause - Although it hasn’t been well studied and more research into the topic is needed, it has been observed that postmenopausal women often experience brow thinning.
  • Telogen effluvium - Also known as hair shedding — find out more here  — telogen effluvium happens when the hair growth cycle is out of sync, resulting in hair loss that can also affect the eyebrows.

Does it matter that my eyebrows are thin?

Brows define the face — they’re an important part of our facial expressions and a lack of brows can really alter our appearance. But they also have a functional role to play in that they help to wick sweat away from the face.

Can anything help my eyebrows grow back?

Yes. DOSE Brows contains minoxidil, a drug that stimulates the follicles, encouraging thicker, fuller brows. It is combined with the antioxidant melatonin, and bimatoprost, a drug which has been proven to extend the growth phase of hair. Supporting ingredients are designed to nourish, strengthen and smooth brow hairs.

DOSE Brows is intended to support regrowth of brows. Some cases — such as hair loss due to alopecia areata and thyroid imbalances — may also require further medical intervention. And it’s worth bearing in mind that if the follicle has been badly scarred from over-plucking, topical solutions are going to be ineffective, and the only course of treatment would be hair transplant surgery. But if over-plucking has resulted in eyebrow hairs that appear thin and brittle, a topical solution, such as DOSE Brows might be able to help.
