Welcome to the DOSE Ingredient Glossary. Below, you’ll find detailed information about the key actives and supporting ingredients used in our formulations, including their benefits, how they work, and any important precautions.
Minoxidil
- What it does : Minoxidil is a clinically proven hair growth stimulant. It works by increasing blood flow to the scalp, reactivating dormant hair follicles, and prolonging the growth phase of the hair cycle.
- Precautions : May cause temporary shedding in the first few weeks of use as new hair pushes out older, weaker strands. Some users may experience mild scalp irritation and facial hair growth. May not be suitable for those with a history of heart conditions. Please consult your doctor to ensure this would be safe to use.
Melatonin
- What it does : More than just a sleep aid, melatonin is a potent antioxidant that protects hair follicles from oxidative stress and supports a healthy hair growth cycle.
- Precautions : No major contraindications here; melatonin is generally well tolerated.
Bimatoprost
- What it does : A type of medicine called prostaglandin analogue that enhances hair growth by extending the anagen (growth) phase, commonly used in lash and brow serums.
- Precautions : May cause darkening of the skin around the application site or slight eye irritation if it comes into contact with the eyes. Rarely, when applied to lashes, it may cause darkening of eye color.
Finasteride
- What it does: This lowers the amount of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) produced in the scalp skin, the hormone responsible for follicle miniaturisation.
- Precautions: Not suitable for use during pregnancy or for individuals with a personal or family history of breast cancer. Should not be handled by pregnant women or those attempting to conceive.
Cyproterone Acetate
- What it does: Reduces androgenic (male hormone) effects that contribute to hair thinning, particularly in conditions like female pattern hair loss.
- Precautions: Should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Estradiol
- What it does: A form of oestrogen that supports hair density by balancing hormone levels, particularly beneficial for postmenopausal hair loss.
- Precautions: Not suitable for individuals with a history of oestrogen-sensitive conditions, including certain cancers.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA)
- What it does: A powerful humectant that deeply hydrates the scalp and hair strands, improving elasticity and reducing breakage.
Collagen
- What it does: Strengthens hair structure, improves resilience, and supports overall hair health by enhancing follicle function.
Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5)
- What it does: Soothes and conditions the scalp while nourishing hair strands to prevent dryness and brittleness.
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
- What it does: Reduces inflammation, improves scalp circulation, and strengthens the hair’s protective barrier.
Caffeine
- What it does: Energises the scalp and helps block the effects of DHT, a hormone that contributes to hair thinning and shedding.
Pea Sprout Extract
- What it does: Stimulates weakened hair follicles and encourages regrowth by extending the hair’s natural growth cycle.
Hydrolysed Soy Protein
